M.A.C. – January/February Roundup 2024

Middlesbrough Angling Club – January Roundup. Club news, notices, points of interest & information for members discussed at our January meeting (held Mon 29th January 2024).

  • As the club committee reconvened for the new year we welcome Tony Little on board as Membership Secretary following his appointment by the members at the club AGM – Tony has already proved his value to this key role and the wider club – managing the updating & printing of the new club rule books (Now available from local tackle shops) as well as preparing for 2024 membership renewals.
  • 2024 Membership subscriptions are now due and must be paid no later than March 31st at Anglers Choice, Cleveland Angling, Keith Sports or by post. After this time reapplication for membership will be necessary – Members are reminded they must not fish club waters until their membership has been renewed.
  • LIFE MEMBERS – It would be helpful going forward if those in receipt of Life Membership of the club could make contact with Tony mac.membership.secretary@gmail.com (or through Dale at Anglers Choice) to ensure contact details are up to date.
  • Following the amendments to the Club Constitution and updates to rules passed at the AGM, the club website – and as mentioned, club book – have been updated with the latest version so members can access this information both physically and digitally – The website membership page has also been updated with revised membership fees and those wishing to join the club can download the membership form from this page.
  • To fulfil new requirements from the Angling Trust’s insurer, the club has appointed a Club Welfare Officer (CWO) responsible for overseeing safeguarding matters and procedures including an agreed and reviewed safeguarding policy and all matters of best practice involving regulated activity that includes children (u18) and/or adults at risk.
  • HUTTON RUDBY – Members should note that the Environment Agency will be conducting a sonar mapping exercise on both ponds at Hutton Rudby on Tuesday 06th February ahead of the rescheduling of the netting that was postponed in December – The ponds will be closed to members until 12pm on this date.
  • MARSKE RESERVOIR – The Committee is in agreement that major maintenance work at the reservoir will be a priority for the year ahead. Committee members recently joined Environment Agency Fisheries Officers on a visit to the venue with a number of solutions being considered for major remedial work on the pegs and access and a number of funding streams being looked into to assist with this work.
  • 2024 COMPETITION DATES – M.A.C. Stillwater & River Match dates have been confirmed and will be published on the club website & Facebook group over the following week – dates will including a new 3 match open series on Lockwood Beck Reservoir… Full details to follow.
  • JUNIOR COACHING – The club is keen to follow up on the success of the beginners coaching sessions held last summer and will continue to work in partnership with the Angling Trust & their Get Fishing campaign to organise more taster sessions. When dates are confirmed they will be announced on the club website & Facebook Group.
  • KEEP THE GATES SHUT & LOCKED – A recent post on the clubs Facebook group showing a double figure carp at Marske Reservoir that has potentially been the victim of an otter or other predatory animal illustrates the importance of ALWAYS keeping the gates shut and locked. Please report any fish fatalities to the Fisheries Officers.

  • COMBINATION LOCKS – Following a growing number of members having difficulties locking the gates at Hutton and Marske the club will be trialling combination locks that will be put in place later this month – Members will be updated via website / Facebook group.
  • OPEN MEETINGS – The dates for this years open Committee meetings – that all club members are welcome to attend – have been confirmed for March, June & September 2024 from 7.00pm. M.A.C.
